2018 - Heston from Waitrose - 6 Chocolate & Sour Cherry Crumble Mince Pies with Heston Cherry Vodka

It's always exciting to hear that Heston has cooked up another interesting take on a mince pie with a random ingredient. This year it's cherry vodka! Intrigued? Read on...

Here we have a pie that looks like it could be on the shelf all year round and nobody would really question it. It certainly doesn't look like a regular mince pie instead, a chunky brownie with icing sugar dusting.

Let's see how it looks;

Heston, you bald, goggle wearing genius, these are delicious. The subtle sweetness of the chocolate is complimented perfectly with the sourness of the cherry and with a little kick from the vodka. The pastry is light and crumbly while still maintaining its shape and not falling apart. But (and it's a big but), this is pushing the definition of a mince pie. The core elements of a mince pie are being drowned by the sour cherries and vodka.
If you're not a huge fan of mince pies but like cherries, vodka, chocolate and want to jump on the mince pie bandwagon [yes, there is one, always being driven by us] then these are for you.

The Mince Pie Administration score 77 / 100
