Being a Waitrose's standard mince pie they carry certain expectations. They should be on a par with the luxury range from the likes of Aldi, Tesco and Morrisons.
Let's see how it looks...
These butter enriched pies are a disappointment. At first I thought the butter enriched part was a mere marketing gimmick but these are in fact heavy on the butter and that taste comes through in troves. The disappointing part is that it tastes like they've used salted butter. There is a hugely overpowering salty taste that sits on the tongue throughout eating and in the aftertaste.
The mincemeat is actually nice, simple, not too sweet and generously filled. It's just a shame you can't really appreciate it over the salt.
If you like a salty and sweet mince pie, these will be right up your street.
