2020 - Heston from Waitrose - Night Before Christmas Mince Pies

With a substantial portion of the world sat indoors watching everything on Netflix, good old Heston has spent 2020 in his kitchen concocting something to either bring the population together or divide us into separate, bitter, is-it or, isn't-it a mince pie groups

Let's see how it looks:

I like how the name of the pie continues onto the pie with the shape of the pie lending itself to a clock with hands indicating it is 11:55pm in the night before Christmas but, I think that's as far as my liking for this pie goes.
Given that Heston's restaurants couldn't be open for large part of 2020, I think that delivery of carrots just couldn't go to waste. These are carrot pies. For a carrot to be present in a mince pie is intriguing. For a carrot to play such a heavy role in a mince pie is just unforgivable. The caraway flavour comes through but, it shouldn't be there.
If you concentrate on just the mince pie elements, it's quite good but it has been invaded by flavours that don't belong.
Oh, and the smoked sugar. Smells smoked, tastes like regular sugar. Meh.
Sorry Heston, this one is a flop.
