There have been a lot of twists on the regular mince pie around this year, here is another one. Spoiler... you might see more of them than the regular mince pies this year. Maybe there is someone better than Heston? Lets find out.
Lets see how it looks. These are rather pleasant. The pastry is crumbly, buttery and is probably the same pastry that Waitrose use in their regular mince pies. Lightly dusted with sugar on top, these are a treat even if they look a little pale.
The mincemeat is what everything hangs off. The plum really comes through nicely. Its not overpowering and works well with the standard raisins, orange and lemon. I was very surprised to actually see bits of almonds in the mincemeat as i would have expected that to have been powdered. The aftertaste is where the tang and warmth of the ginger come through. a very nice mincemeat. Where it falls short is that there isnt much of it when compared to the size of the pie. It is also a little on the dry side bordering a thick jelly-like texture.
For an alternative mince pie, these are great but, at only 4 in a box and at 50p each. These are a bit pricey.
