2020 - Sainsburys - Taste the Difference - Rum, Pineapple and Coconut Mince Pies

Hot on the heels of the rum filled Tesco finest mince pies we have Sainsburys' rum, pineapple and coconut mince pies. Now, I know there are people in this world that would happily cause significant harm to those that put pineapple on pizza's. I think I now know how you feel. I'm not so sure about the pineapple.

Lets see how they look;

Being a lidless mince pie you would think that as they are removing a layer of potentially dry pastry it should mean this is an adequately moisture filled mince pie, however, this is not. It is still a dry pastry all around. What is made worse is the mincemeat has dried out too, possibly due to being baked without a lid.

As i have said, the pastry is dry but its seasoned well. I still get the sticks-in-your-teeth effect after eating which is never nice.

The mincemeat is where the Carribean party is. A much more subtle hint of rum with the mincemeat when eating and an aftertaste of rum and coconut. I can actually see the bits of pineapple but oddly, i cannot really taste it. The pineapple's natural sweetness is drowned by the sweetness from the sultanas, raisins and apple puree (which will be a delight to those pineapple haters). Overall the mincemeat does taste okay but, it is dry and mostly a thick puree (except for the chunks of pineapple).

A novelty mince pie at best and with only 4 in a box for a price where you would usually get 6. This 'aint' no Heston mince pie.
