I felt I needed a little bit of grounding after spending the last few reviews sampling all the various takes on the regular mince pie. It's time to review a standard tranditional mince pie. Sainsburys taste the difference is up next.
Lets see how they look;
The pastry is pretty good. A nice crumbly exterior but still stong enough to hold its shape. Tastes good, looks good and no soggy bottom in sight. Just a little dry. The mincemeat is pretty average. It is nicely filled and you can clearly see whole currants and raisins but, it also looks and has a jelly-like texture. Its quite a sweet mincemeat but is reduced slightly by the pastry. All you can really taste here is the sweetness from the raisins, currants and a very slight hint of brandy.
It is a bit of a disssapointment as I expected more flavour from the upper end of a supermarket mince pie.
